Utah Land Surveyors
Boundary, ALTA/NSPS, topographic, drone, construction, floodplain and development surveys for Utah homeowners, buyers, builders, lenders, attorneys and developers—from the Wasatch Front to rural counties and remote acreage.
Updated July 30, 2026 · Statewide service and location hub
Utah land surveyors measure more than property lines—they establish the legal and physical information a project depends on.
Ludlow Engineering provides statewide professional land surveying for property ownership, commercial transactions, design, permitting, construction and floodplain needs. The correct service depends on the decision you must make: a boundary survey for property lines, an ALTA/NSPS survey for a commercial closing, a topographic survey for design, construction staking for layout, or another specialized scope.
Start with the property address or parcel number and the reason you need the survey. Ludlow Engineering will identify the likely service, review the available records and prepare a written proposal that addresses scope, fee, schedule, travel and deliverables.
What are you trying to accomplish?
You do not need to know the technical name of the survey before contacting a surveyor.

Land surveying across all 29 Utah counties
Utah projects range from dense Wasatch Front parcels to agricultural acreage, historic townsites, desert property and mountain terrain.
One statewide firm, different local conditions
A survey scope must fit the location. Records, access, terrain, monument history, seasonal conditions, travel and jurisdictional requirements can change the work even when two parcels are similar in size.
Statewide availability does not mean every property has the same fee or field date. The written proposal identifies the project location, expected mobilization, survey scope, deliverables and current scheduling.

How a Utah land survey works
Every survey has a defined question, records phase, field phase and professional deliverable.
Define the purpose
Tell us whether the survey supports a fence, closing, permit, design, subdivision, construction or floodplain requirement.
Review the parcel
We identify the property, available deeds, plats, title documents, prior surveys, project plans and requested deliverables.
Prepare the proposal
The written proposal defines the scope, fee, schedule, travel, assumptions, client responsibilities and exclusions.
Research and fieldwork
The survey team gathers controlling records, establishes control, searches for evidence and measures the required features.
Professional analysis
The licensed surveyor evaluates the records and measurements, resolves discrepancies and determines the professional result.
Drafting and review
The map, plat, CAD file, certificate, report, legal description or staking information is prepared and quality checked.
Delivery and coordination
The final deliverable is transmitted to the client and, when included, coordinated with lenders, title, designers or agencies.
Next project phase
Survey data can move into site planning, engineering, permitting, construction staking or closeout when additional work is needed.
Modern GNSS equipment can measure very precisely, but the licensed surveyor must still evaluate deeds, plats, monuments, adjoining evidence and controlling boundary principles. Precision is not a substitute for professional boundary analysis.
Utah land-survey cost and timing
Planning ranges help with budgeting, but each property requires its own scope review.
| Survey service | Common planning range | Common delivery | Primary cost and timing factors |
|---|---|---|---|
| Residential boundary survey | Starts at $1,025; many projects $1,025–$2,500 | Often 1–3 weeks | Records, monument condition, acreage, terrain, access, dispute complexity and travel |
| ALTA/NSPS land title survey | Commonly starts around $3,000 | Often 3–6 weeks | Title commitment, Table A scope, easements, improvements, utilities, acreage and closing deadline |
| Topographic survey | Commonly starts near $1,500 | Often 2–4 weeks | Survey limits, contour interval, feature density, vegetation, terrain and CAD requirements |
| Construction staking | From single-visit work to multi-phase project pricing | Scheduled by construction phase | Plan quality, number of visits, points, tolerances, contractor schedule and mobilization |
| FEMA Elevation Certificate | Commonly starts near $350 | Often 1–2 weeks | Flood zone, benchmark access, structure type, form requirements and related LOMA work |
| Subdivision, platting or development survey | Custom proposal | Project-specific | Number of lots, agency process, engineering coordination, utilities, hearings and recording |

Why Utah clients choose Ludlow Engineering
A statewide survey is more useful when the firm can also support the transaction, design or construction that follows.
Boundary, topographic and ALTA data can move directly into civil site design, drainage, utilities, subdivision plans and construction support.
Long-term work across Utah provides familiarity with modern subdivisions, historic townsites, rural descriptions, public-land-system evidence and varied terrain.
When certification is required, the applicable work is reviewed and signed by the Utah-licensed Professional Land Surveyor or Professional Engineer responsible for it.
GNSS, robotic total stations, levels, drones and CAD workflows are selected according to the project—not used as a substitute for judgment.
The proposal identifies what will be measured, researched and delivered, plus the fee, schedule, travel and work not included.
Use this hub for statewide coverage, the service directory for survey types and county or city pages for local project detail.
Utah regulates professional land surveying under the Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors Licensing Act. Property owners can review the Utah Division of Professional Licensing engineering and land-surveyor resources.

Utah land surveyor FAQ
Answers to the most common statewide service, scope, price and licensing questions.
Do Ludlow Engineering land surveyors serve all of Utah?
Ludlow Engineering provides statewide land-surveying availability across Utah’s 29 counties. Scheduling, travel and mobilization are evaluated for the specific property and disclosed in the written proposal.
What types of land surveys are available in Utah?
Common Utah survey services include boundary and property-line surveys, ALTA/NSPS land title surveys, topographic surveys, drone and UAV mapping, construction staking, as-built surveys, FEMA Elevation Certificates, subdivision surveys and site-development surveys.
How much does a land survey cost in Utah?
Ludlow Engineering residential boundary surveys commonly start at $1,025. Topographic surveys commonly start near $1,500 and ALTA/NSPS surveys commonly start near $3,000. The final fee depends on survey type, acreage, records, monuments, terrain, travel, deliverables and schedule.
How do I know which land survey I need?
Start with the decision the survey must support. Property lines generally require a boundary survey; commercial title transactions often require an ALTA/NSPS survey; design requires topographic data; construction requires staking; and completed work may require an as-built survey.
Why should I hire a Utah-licensed Professional Land Surveyor?
Professional land surveying is a licensed profession in Utah. A licensed Professional Land Surveyor evaluates legal records and field evidence, takes professional responsibility for the work and signs or seals the final survey when required.
How long does a Utah land survey take?
Many residential boundary surveys take one to three weeks. Topographic surveys commonly take two to four weeks, and ALTA/NSPS surveys commonly take three to six weeks. Large acreage, poor records, missing monuments, difficult terrain and urgent transaction changes can extend the schedule.
What information should I send for a land-survey quote?
Send the property address or parcel number, the reason for the survey, approximate acreage, target date and any deed, plat, title commitment, prior survey or project plan you already have.
Can Ludlow Engineering provide both surveying and civil engineering?
Yes. Ludlow Engineering has Professional Land Surveyors and Professional Engineers in-house, allowing survey data to move directly into site planning, grading, drainage, utility, subdivision and construction work when the project requires both disciplines.
Start with the parcel and the project goal.
Send the Utah property location, what you are trying to accomplish and the date that matters. Ludlow Engineering will identify the likely survey, explain the scope and prepare a written proposal.
